Here are some of the things we talked about.

Introduction of Board of Directors:

1. Board met January 10, 2012 to review bylaws and vote on officer positions. Trustees will hold two year terms. Association will vote to add two more board members for 2013 year, increasing board from 7 to 9 members. In addition, the board voted to change membership renewal dates to calendar year.

2. Bob Seyfang discussed progress of overlay committee. Looking at a May or June completion date. Committee will work with the board before details are finalized. Bob also presented visionary plans for boutique hotels created by BGSU architectural students for the parking area between Washington and Huron Streets.

1. OC Bridge – TWDA members supported idea to send letter to members of city administration and council expressing disapproval of the motion before council to remove or relocate the bridge leading to the Owens Corning premises. We will look into whether or not there is any legally enforceable agreement with city for the maintenance of the bridge. Will also look into potential historical commission funding to offset costs of repairs and ongoing maintenance.
2. Erie Street Market – Discussed future of building, including proposals from community college and a culinary school. Members support idea of exploring potential tenants of building and discussion with Libbey regarding renewal of the outlet lease this year.
3. New opportunities – Mayors office sent letter to CEO of Trader Joes expressing interest in bringing a retail location to the downtown area. Richard Rideout, Janet Albright and Kate Kelley are working on formal proposal to send to Trader Joes about utilizing the space in the ESM.

We had a good response to our call for Board of Director nominees. There are 11 nominees for 7 spots. Election ballots were e-mailed this morning to all voting members of TWDA. If you are a voting member and did NOT receive an e-mail ballot, please let me know asap. Elections close at 5:00 pm on December 5.

Bill Thomas sent a clarifying e-mail on the issue of Downtown plan, mentioned in my summary of November’s breakfast. His comments are below:

Hi Diane,

Thanks for creating these minutes. They are very helpful and informative. I am commenting on the fourth paragraph concerning water street and the sandpiper dock. I believe these statements originate from the recently completed Downtown Plan and several members of the team have talked to Mary about this.

1) It is not suggested that the metered parking on Water street goes away. If the Promenade Park conceptual is embraced and implemented, a portion of Water Street is eliminated to join the two parcels into a single park parcel. The plan is to re-design the park using similar design concepts from Millennium Park in Chicago. We want to energize the park for downtown workers and residents by creating comfortable outdoor rooms. If this plan moves forward, only the metered parking on this portion of Water Street becomes non-existent, since the street is gone. Between the metered parking and the lot behind Fort Industry Square, over 200 spaces remain.

2) Concerning the Sandpiper dock, there is no talk to remove the dock. The Sandpiper energizes downtown and the park space. We expect the Sandpiper to remain as long as it makes sense for the Sandpiper.

The “business” of our meeting revolved around nominations and subsequent election for our Board of Directors. The nominations are attached for your review. Nominations are still open, so if you have a burning desire to serve the Warehouse District, please e-mail me before the deadline of November 23. At that point, an electronic ballot will be emailed to all members of the TWDA and results posted on our website. Terms will officially begin in January.

Adam Goldberg reported on costs for a 9 x 15 aluminum sign (yes, we are still working on this!). For under $100, you can buy a sign with your building’s name and the trademark, “This building is a part of Toledo’s Historic Warehouse District.” We will be ordering these soon, so if you are interested, please e-mail me with your order by November 30. If you had previously signed up for a sign, please still e-mail me to confirm that you still want one.

Mary Dalby reported a concern about the future plans for Water Street and Promenade Park. Apparently there is talk to eliminate the parking and dock at Water Street. Although out of our district, we want to support local businesses, so keep your ears open for City Council meetings on the matter.

Our 25th anniversary is February 14, 2012–a great reason for a party! Help us celebrate in a BIG way! If you are interested in helping Bridget Townley plan this party, please email her at townley. The party date is TBD, but it will be close to Valentine’s Day. We don’t want to interfere with any romantic plans! So pencil us in your calendar!

Our next meeting will be December 20, and another breakfast is planned. Stay tuned for location.

And, since it is Thanksgiving season, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your interest and participation in this Association. It was a dream of mine to revive this group and I believed in a vibrant group even before there was one. Thanks for making that dream a reality. Now go on and thank someone in your life!

Wednesday, November 9, 4:30-6:30 pm is an Input Session for Potential Brownfield Redevelopment Properties and Corridors in Toledo and Lucas County. The coaltion is reviewing and updating the list of brownfields within Toledo and Lucas County and is interested in your thoughts on the process and suggestions for potential brownfield sites. The meeting is at the Environmental Services building at 348 South Erie Street. For more information, contact Dan Pittman at Dan.Pittman.

Saint Clair Street is hosting a Holiday Bazaar on Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3. Times are 6-10 pm on Friday and 11-3 pm on Saturday. The format is similar to Art Walks that take place throughout the summer. Event planning is currently taking place, so if you are an artist and are interested in participating, contact Kalah Harrison at Ahava Spa, ahavaspa.

Thanks to those who have contacted me about being a Director of the Association. If you are still thinking about it, call me so I can convince you! Seriously, we have 1-2 open slots left, so if you are interested in being nominated, please get in touch with me right away.
